8 Day Air Safari

September 20 - 28, 2008

Zagreb - Zagorje - Pula - Istria - Trogir/Split- Dalmacija - Dubrovnik - Plitvice - Zagreb

Plans are in progress to give you the best experience we can arrange! Our itinerary is flexible, and any requests for places to visit are welcome. The itinerary below is still being finalized. You can assume you will fly a couple of hours a day on average, but with time to sightsee, relax, and enjoy yourself.

Each airplane will carry two guests, and be accompanied by a Croatian pilot. You will be able to fly the plane yourself as much as you like.

Book by end July - space is limited.

Start

Sep 20th - Arrive at Zagreb's Pleso International Airport, tranfer to hotel, introductions, briefings, and group dinner.

For those arriving early we can arrange Zagreb sightseeing excursions.


Zagreb

Sep 21 - Meet up at Lučko airfield for orientation flight around Zagreb and Zagorje, sightseeing from the air - green rolling countryside, forests, medieval castles, small villages nestling in the hills, Zagreb itself. Picnic lunch in Varaždin or Osijek. Opportunity to take a glider flight (weather permitting).

Late afternoon or early morning next day - flight to Pula airport, enjoy some great views of the changing countryside as the rolling fields give way to limestone hills of Istria.


Pula

Sep 22 - Fly up the coast to Vrsar airport, on the Istrian peninsula. Along the way, we'll enjoy some stunning views of the Istrian coast, with its azure blue waters, and ancient hill towns, fortified against the Venetians. Vrsar is a small coastal fortified city. Lunch in Lim Fyord (Limski Kanal) with sightseeing. Then flight back to Pula.

Pula is an ancient city, with the best preserved roman amphitheater in the world. We will have time to sightsee in Pula, visit arena, and other roman buildings.

Overnight in Pula at the Hotel Histria.


Unije

Sep 23 - Fly to an island airstrip next to the sea for some swimming on the Island of Unije, with picnic lunch. On the way there we'll overfly some spectacular scenery, with steep hillside dropping into the Adriatic and islands dotting the sea. Landing is right next to the water.

Fly on to Zadar in the afternoon. Along the way we'll pass numerous islands, small and large, fantastic scenery of sea, islands, Dugi otok, Kornati, mountains and small towns hidden in island coves.


Zadar

Sep 23 - Arrive at Zadar airport late afternoon. Evening meal, visit to the unique sea organ and salute to the sun at the top of Zadar Peninsula. Zadar is supposed to have the most beautiful sunsets in the world - even according to Alfred Hitchcock - Click this link for more about Zadar.

Split

Sep 24 - Arrive at Split airport. Evening meal and ethnic show at the Pantan Water Mill in Trogir near Split. A restored 15th century water mill in the middle of wetlands important for migrating birds. Overnight at hotel in Split/Trogir.

Sep 25 - Boat excursion to Split, a medieval town built around the 2000 year old Roman Palace of Diocletian.

Sightseeing from the air -  Hvar, Vis, Korčula, fly over lighthouses on the islands (Lastovo, Sušac). Landing  at Hvar airstrip, check out Stari Grad (Old City) - reputed to be the oldest city in Europe. Hvar Airstrip is located in the middle of ancient Greek fields dating back almost 3000 years.

Dubrovnik

Sep 26 - Our flight to Dubrovnik will take us south, over mountains and we'll see ancient hill fortresses, canyons and coastal towns, before flying past the magnificent fortress city of Dubrovnik itself to land at Dubrovnik Airport. We will allow plenty free time to visit the old town of Dubrovnik, walk the walls, see the sights, and enjoy the atmosphere.

Overnight at hotel in Koločep island, with boat trip to Dubrovnik itself.


Plitvice Lakes

Sep 27 - Flying sightseeing trip to Mljet – Korčula - Sinj  - Knin  direct to airstrip Otočac for Plitvice Lakes ground tour. Marvellous National Park, many connected lakes with lovely waterfalls between them. Plitvice National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with unique gypsum (plaster of paris) formations caused by water plants depositing gypsum to make dams and shelves for water to cascade over.

Flight back to Zagreb in the late afternoon.


Zagreb

Sep 27 - Arrive back at Lučko Airfield, and transfer to hotel.

Evening and overnight in Zagreb - another party or maybe we just recover and rest and compare impressions.

End of tour: Enjoy some extra time in Zagreb, or fly home on Sep 28th
